David Pontin
Associate Professor of Physics, University of Newcastle
I gained an MSci in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (2001) and a PhD (2004) from the University of St Andrews, UK. My research involves understanding fundamental processes in plasma, particularly in the Sun's atmosphere. Particular topics of expertise are the Sun's magnetic field, the heating of the Sun's atmosphere, and the generation of the "solar wind" the expands outwards from the Sun to stream past the Earth and beyond. All of these are critical for understand the Space Weather around the Earth and planets.
